Susan Coppock

I have been photographing for more than 50 years and I am still thrilled every time I capture something special in nature. I live, breathe, work, dream, and judge photography. Since retiring as a photo teacher in high school I now have more time to pursue my passion for night photography, storm chasing, and the ocean. I miss my students but still get to see and photograph with some of them often. When I was teaching I always left an hour or two early so I could stop and photograph the ocean on my way to school. This was always a wonderful start to my day and my colleagues and students loved seeing the images I produced  and shared with them.

My work has won numerous awards including Best of Show and has been shown in magazines, museums, galleries, and personal collections.

Statement

I am first and foremost a storm chaser and nature photographer. I go storm chasing every summer during monsoon season in Arizona and New Mexico. Being able to get photographs of nature’s most spectacular shows, where no image is like another, is my greatest joy.  I always hope that this might spark others to work to protect and save our planet when they see how beautiful it is.

I try to share with others the awe and spirit I feel when surrounded by the power of Mother Nature, her fury, her power, and the incredible beauty she produces each and every day. I am lucky enough to live close to the ocean so I get to witness both people and wildlife interacting with and appreciating all the magic the seashore offers. Nature nurtures us, and I am happy to share my experiences through my photographic images.
