California kelp forests are home to a diverse array of marine life. However, these forests are in decline due to climate change and other human activities. Kelp forests are home to over 1000 species of animals and plants, including fish, sea urchins, snails, sea otters, sea lions, and whales. Kelp forests also provide a nursery habitat for juvenile fish.
