Krista Timberlake

Krista Timberlake is a fine artist and graphic designer originally from Western Massachusetts. After attending UVM for premed & Savannah College of Art & Design, she earned her BFA in painting from UMASS, Amherst. Bicycling for 30+ years has created a love and addiction that’s contributed many ideas and themes to her art. As an avid cyclist, yogini, hiker, weightlifter, fitness enthusiast & former premed student, she has a great appreciation for the body as a machine. Artistically, she has always found beauty in well-crafted machinery, and likes melding mechanical elements with living things, especially animals. She also has a passion for music and animals, all of which show up frequently in her art. In creating mechanical & more naturalistic pieces, she is intrigued by line, texture and color, and is most drawn to using watercolor because it is so unpredictable. She finds that the most interesting things happen in her work when “mistakes” occur- unplanned reactions that will never be able to be duplicated. Krista is adept at working in many mediums and enjoys creating work of all sizes, up to large-scale murals. She also has a great appreciation for humor & enjoys incorporating whimsical elements into much of her work. Krista currently lives in Vista, works as the Senior Entertainment Designer at The Upper Deck Company, & freelances as a graphic designer. She welcomes commissions of any size.

Statement

I am an avid cyclist of over 30 years and a former premed student- 2 things that have led me to explore the melding of living things and machinery. As relates to my mechanical paintings, I have a great appreciation for the body as a machine, and the complexity of the inner workings of all living things. Artistically, I have always found a beauty in well-crafted machinery, (especially bicycles). I hope viewers, whether or not they are cyclists, will see a bit of mechanism brought to the figures, and a bit of organic, fluid energy instilled in the mechanical bits I’ve rendered.

Regarding my other drawings, mixed media pieces and paintings, I am intrigued by line, light and color, and am most interested in using watercolor as I love that it is unpredictable. I find the most interesting things happen in my painting when “mistakes” occur- unplanned pigment/color reactions that I will never be able to duplicate.

I work primarily in watercolor, but also love collage, drawing, mixed media, acrylic & more. I gravitate toward creating human figures & portraits, animals and bicycle-themed work, in an organic, dynamic and non-photorealistic manner. I often combine people & animals with mechanical elements, and enjoy adding humorous elements in many of my pieces. I love creating custom work for clients & welcome commissions of all sorts. By day I’m the lead Entertainment Designer for The Upper Deck Company.
