Maxine Brooks

Maxine Brooks has always been a creative soul, having been recognized for her artistry back during childhood when she was invited to submit a mosaic into a school wide exhibition while only in elementary school. Later, she pursued an A.A. in Art followed by a B.A. in Art and cultural Anthropology, in addition to both Elementary and Secondary teaching credentials. She has always had something in progress, including ceramics in her home study, weaving on an 8 harness floor loom, then transitioning into more portable forms of fiber arts, knitting body wrappings and unique knit scarves, as well as moving into three dimensional fiber scuplture pieces, hanging and on platforms. . She has taught art in the Los Angeles Public Schools as well as on television and movie sets, introducing her student actors to the creative world.

Statement

This is my 'Underwater Seascape' created and designed to increase awareness of our great oceans and how debris is affecting the environment. I have included many found objects, aka trash, and also have created pieces to symbolize what lies in our oceans, and to show how our ocean environment is being impacted.
